CM attends World Food Day programme Govt. to ensure food security through increased production: CM


Dispur, Oct 16: "Government of Assam will work with more resoluteness to ensure food, cloth and shelter for every citizen in the state. These are fundamental requirements without which no one can live a dignified life. The state government is committed to improve the living standard of the poor families and has taken up series of activities".

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said this while taking part as chief guest at the World Food Day celebration organized by North East Institute of Advanced Studies at Vivekananda Kendra in the city today.

Stating that the World Food Day is celebrated with the aim to stop hunger from the world, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the state and central governments have targeted to provide food security to every citizen.

He also appreciated the role played by North East Institute of Advanced Studies in spreading awareness on food security and underlined the importance of public awareness for success of the government initiatives.

Further mentioning that 2.5 crore people of the state have been covered under Food Security Act, Sonowal said that the state government has lunched Chief Minister's Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana to boost economic growth of the people living in the villages in Assam. The Chief Minister also laid stress on soil testing for increasing the rate of food grain production in the state.

Sonowal also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up several welfare schemes for the poor to improve their living condition. "Prime Minister's Ujjawala Scheme is one such programme, which is launched by the government to ensure healthy life for the poor", Sonowal said.

He also referred to the Jan-Dhan Yojana and said that the initiative opened new opportunity for the poor families to experience bank transaction and freed the banks from the control of the elite class.

Chief Minister's Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami and eminent journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap also spoke on the occasion.

Coinciding the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal also released a vision document, "Food Security, Assam -– 2030", prepared by the North East Institute of Advanced Studies.

Chief Minister's Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali and host of other dignitaries were also present in the programme.
