Chief Minister receives Governor Designate Jagdish Mukhi


Dispur, Oct 9: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today received Governor designate Jagdish Mukhi at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar in the city.

Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who was the Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has been appointed as Governor of Assam by President Ramnath Kovind in place of Banwarilal Purohit, who was appointed as the governor of Tamil Nadu.

The chief minister welcomed the Governor designate and expressed confidence that Assam would be taken on the path of development and prosperity by the state government under the able guidance of that new governor. Sonowal hoped that the governor designate, who was awarded the Best Finance and Planning Minister by the then Planning Minister, Pranab Mukherjee in 1997 and best MLA by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi in 2002, would offer his advice and guidance to the state government from his rich administrative experiences and help the government achieve its goals.

The chief minister was accompanied by Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Handloom and Textiles Minister Ranjit Dutta, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Media and Legal Advisers to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami and Shantanu Bharali, Minister of State for Power Pallab Lochan Das, several MLAs, Chief Secretary V.K. Pipersenia, DGP Mukesh Sahay and other senior officials of the state government.
